2009 National ConferenceSave the Date: November 13-14Bolton Landing, NY Join us at The Sagamore on Friday and Saturday, November 13-14, for the 2009 CFES National Conference, "The Change We Need: College For Every Student." Jonathan Kozol will kick off this year's event on Friday afternoon. Hailed by The Chicago Sun-Times as "today's most eloquent spokesman for America's disenfranchised," Kozol will share the challenges and rewards of his work in some of the most embattled, impoverished public schools in our nation. His books, from Death at an Early Age, which won the National Book Award in 1968, to his latest, Letters to a Young Teacher, chronicle his experiences as an educator and advocate for social justice. Friday evening, featured speaker Harvey Alston will share his insight and knowledge from a career that has spanned diverse positions, from teacher and high school football coach to business management. A proven motivator, Alston has authored four books, including Be the Best and Black Males, and is also the recipient of numerous awards and national recognition.
